What is a Chartered Organization ?

What is a Chartered Organization? Civic, faith-based, and educational organizations operate Scouting units to deliver the programs to their youth members, as well as the community at large.

Mountain View Church is the chartered organization for Pack 180 Cub Scouts and Troop 180 Boy Scouts. Not only is it the meeting location for the pack or troop, but also the home base for activities as well. Pack 180 has annual camp outs, picnics, awards ceremonies and events, such as pinewood derby and rain gutter regatta held at Mountain View Church . Scouting is a big part of Mountain View Church community outreach program. Scouts participate in services at the church and help with community events.

What is a Pack ?

AkelaWhat is a Pack? A pack is made up of Leaders, Scouts and their families. The Pack determines the activites the scouts participate in throughout the year. Activities include such things as Den meetings, Hikes, Picnics, Camp-Outs etc. The Pack meets monthly in  Pack Meetings. Pack meetings are generally held each month in the Mountain View  Church meeting room located at 1077 Viewpoint Lane, Forest VA 24551. Pack meetings are where awards are distributed and where Dens share their experiences with the rest of the pack. The meeting lasts about an hour, and the scout’s entire family is welcome to attend.

What is a Den?
Boys in the pack are grouped into dens based on their grade levels. Each Den has a name. The youngest Dens are the Tiger Cubs, followed by the Wolves, then the Bears, and lastly the Webelos. There are 2 levels of Webelos dens. Each Webelo den may take on another nickname such as the Dragons. Dens usually meet weekly to work on achievements and have fun. Den meetings last about an hour. Each den is led by adult volunteers, typically adult family members of the boys in the den. Each Den will have a Den Leader and usually an Assistant Den Leader. The time and location of the den meetings are determined by the den leadership.
